In a function organized by the Great Place to Work Institute on Jul 13 in Mumbai, Indus was felicitated as the 2nd best organization in the Education sector, the 9th best organization among organizations with fewer than 1000 employees and top 50 among all organizations in India.

GPTW, which conducts this exercise annual among the leading companies of the world, is one of the most reputed surveys of the work culture of the organizations worldwide.

Grandparents' Day Celebration at IWS Indore

The week long waiting ended as grandparents walked into the corridor with gleaming eyes and springs in their stride. Children welcomed them with the customary ‘teeka’ and led them to the hall. We welcomed all the guests and the children who were seated on the mat waved in glee. The excitement was obvious Grandparents introduced themselves and the children began the program with a prayer. A quiz on lesser known details about the school was conducted by the little quizmasters in the class. Views of children on why their grandparents were inseparable from their life were discussed. The responses ranged from the fun and Gods in the stories they narrated, the pickles they made, the knowledge they shared, gratitude for having given birth to their parents, giving strength, taking care of diet and nutrition, making them confident and smart, being brave even in the face of crises, teaching them to talk and walk and the pain they have undergone when children fall ill. It was overwhelming to see a reunion in such a nice manner. A game of ‘Passing the parcel’ was played wherein the forfeit was to share a childhood prank. One could see embarrassment on the faces while they shared it. The day ended with children giving away saplings to grandparents as a token of eternal love and the security within the relationship. All guests departed after brunch. It was a memorable day indeed!

World International Dance Day ,The Indus Way at Indus World School Pune

We all would agree to that dance is not only an expressive form of art but is great fun too. Any function in India is incomplete without dance. Dance is other name for enjoyment and celebration.

World International Dance Day was a best opportunity for all of us to celebrate the best form of celebration – DANCE. We at Indus World School decided to take this opportunity to introduce children with different dance forms, with lots of fun.

Everybody seems to have fun

 The children were told about the various folk dances in India and a small demonstration was given by the nursery mentor Mrs. Bhakti Thube and the PPI mentor Mrs. Nupur Mokashi.

The students of Grade II, Grade I, and PPII performed on music selected and choreographed by their parents. There was fun all around. Not only were the children dancing cheerfully but also for the mentors also, it was, as if their childhood was back once again. There was dance in the air and everybody was dancing merrily, even our Principal Mrs. Jayshree Venkatraman could not hold herself back from dancing and became a child among children.  The event concluded with all the girls dancing on ‘Zoobi Doobi’ track from ‘3 idiots’ and the entire team of students and staff dancing to ‘Bum Bum Bole…’ from ‘Tare Zameen Par’.

Mangoes, Mangoes all around! With the Mango season in full swing, it was decided to give exposure and experience of mangoes to Ananda children. They were asked to accompany their parents to Mango vendor to see verities of mangoes and help their parents in preparing mango shake on Sunday. Each child brought a Mango for ‘Show and Tell’ activity and shared which variety he/ she had brought.

“Aam Utsav” was celebrated on Monday 22nd June 2012. Cutouts of mangoes in different colors adorned the corridors and the main entrance. Mentors along with didis came in yellow colored dress. 

During “Aam utsav” children watched videos and sang rhymes on mango in A.V hall.  There was a pin drop silence while listening to the story of mango. Preparing takeaways like Mango ice cream (PPI), decorating glasses for mango shakes (PPII), brought them together. Nursery children developed their gross motor skills by dabbing on mango cut outs. They got the exposure of yellow colour too. 

While children were busy doing these activities, didis and mentors were busy in cutting mango slices and the whole Ananda section was filled with sweet mango fragrance. Children were eagerly waiting to have mangoes brought by them. The messy way in which they ate mangoes was a treat to watch. They had mangoes all over their faces and hands and most of them wanted to have more and more. Surprisingly, some of the nursery children forgot their tears looking at different varieties of mangoes - Langra, Badaam, Chausa, Dasehri, Kesar, Totapari etc. It brought a big smile on their faces. 

They did the reflection of the event through drawing and happily went home with sweet memories of mangoes. 

Salad Making

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away" . What does this phrase bring to our minds? Fruits are good for health. When people want to go on a diet what does a dietician advice? He says never stay hungry, we must at least eat some fruits.On 27th June 2012, the students of PP-2 had their mentor bring some fruits into the class. Pressy Ma'am brought a Watermelon, a Muskmelon and a Mango. During the lesson the children learnt the colours of the fruits. When their mentor cut the fruits they saw that the Watermelon had many brown and black seeds a Muskmelon too had many seeds, but a Mango had just one big seed. Through the lesson the children learnt the colour, the covering, the seeds and the taste etc. about the fruits. 

After the mentor had finished with her teaching about the fruits she cut the fruits and made a delicious fruit salad. The children then went to all the classes and shared their fruit salad with their other Indusian friends. The mentor used this lesson and taught the children not only about the fruit but also a good act of sharing. This is the Indus way of teaching.

Father’s Day was celebrated at Indus World School on 19th June 2012. We at Indus called it “Parents Day" so that the Mothers who are the better halves of the Fathers may not feel left out. It was a very special day for every child at school that day. All the classes were busy making special gifts for their parents. The Pune Indusians proudly planned this day to make the parents proud of their parenthood. And what could be a better way than to make the parents speak about their experiences as parents. The children put up dances and recited poems for their parents. This the little Indusians did in a very short span of only 3-4 days. Jaya Luhana put in a lot of efforts in helping the kids put up this dance. The enthusiasm of the children was seen when little Aditya from the class Nursery asked his teacher to call Jaya and commanded her to come for practice. Jaya left all the work at office and reported to these enthusiastic Indusians who were all eager to make the 19th a memorable day for their loving Parents. Nursery and PP-1 children performed on the song "Chanda Mama" taught by Jaya. They were so good that it couldn’t stop the parents from joining the little angels. The PP-2 kids recited poems for their parents. The Grade-1 and 2 kids danced on the Indus Anthem. And if one has heard the Indus Anthem one would know that the feet automatically begin to dance to its tune. So did our wonderful parents that day. They were overjoyed to see their kids dance for them and they too couldn't help but dance.
