Mentor Training at Indus

At Indus we want every child to learn and achieve her/his potential. In order to achieve this we have a progressive approach to curriculum transaction. The curriculum caters to all types of learners – visual, linguistic and kinesthetic. The curriculum transaction and lesson plans cater to the different intelligences as well as skills. The one person who is integral to this entire process is the mentor in class. Empowering the mentors and ensuring that they regularly upgrade their skills is given utmost importance at Indus. The Faculty Development Programme runs through the year but a week long intensive Training Programme conducted during the summer helps Indus mentors to hone their skills.

The Mentor Training Programme was conducted across Indus Campuses from 24th May to 9th June 2014. The sessions were varied – on one hand all Indus Practices were covered and on the other hand subject specific sessions were held. MrSatya himself anchored the language and Social Science sessions. The sessions highlighted the use of audio visual tools as well as the focus was on the four skills – LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing). The session on Child Development took the mentors through all theories of child development but helped the mentors to connect the theory to the real time practices at Indus. There were sessions to help mentors master the skills to transact Math and Science. The mentors also attended sessions related to integrating technology into the classroom – be it using Google Apps for education (Google Drive) or using tablets as well as the Online assessment tool ‘ Compassbox’. Ms Uma R anchored these sessions .Ms Ramanjit Ghuman, member AcadCouncil, conducted sessions on School Processes as well as CCE.

Every Indusian lives by the Indus Core values of ROOHI – Risk Taking, Openness, Ownership, Honest and Commitment , Innovation. A Core Value Orientation session was also a part of the programme. Communicating effectively and with empathy is very important for every mentor so MrSujitBhattacharya anchored these sessions.

At Indus each person learns and grows. We believe in empowering our mentors on their journey of professional growth. This year two mentors MsPrernaVerma (IWS Gurgaon)and MsNupurMokasi (IWS Pune) took a step ahead to join the Acad Team as Trainers for the Ananda1 section. These young mentors anchored the A1 trainings at Indore, Ludhiana and Aurangabad. In the near future there will be many more mentors who will be equipped with skills to take on the role of a trainer – such is the scope of Faculty Development at Indus.

In the coming days each and every child at Indus will benefit from these few days of intensive and rigorous training attended by their mentors!
