Summer Camp Grand Finale at Indus World School

Summer camps are an opportunity for kids to learn, make new friends and share new adventures. Indus World School had organized a summer camp Bonanza in the school premises between 16^th April to 30^thApril, 2012. The Grand Finale was held on 30^th April’12.

 With 2^nd year of excellence, IWS summer camp maintained a low ratio for added safety and fun. During the camp we integrated a review of exploring and enhancing their vocabulary, visualising numbers through basic concepts of Vedic math, music, dance, art and craft activities keeping in mind that children are on vacation and fun is a must. The above activities were designed keeping in mind the skills required for the 21^st, century.

The Summer Camp gave all the children the opportunity to push boundaries to explore the world around them and to imagine their own greatest possibilities. Campers were asked to step out of their usual comfort zones as they learnt how to live amicably with others. They developed important life skills, independence, honesty, helpfulness and self-esteem because they lived with children from different schools and learnt to get along with the peers and respect one another. IWS is a place where all the kids are valued no matter what their talents or differences are.

Children took part in a combination of challenging multiple activities with stimulating mental abilities in the fields such as arts, crafts language, music, dance, and Vedic maths. It also groomed their unexplored hidden talents and personalities. Kids benefited through their own effort, they learnt and grew from the experience.

“It was indeed remarkable to see these children settle down so well and become comfortable with all of us. They were all open to the given opportunities and have done extremely well during the camp. We at Indus believe that every child is unique and blessed with lot of skills. The need of the hour is to give opportunities to them and let them discover their hidden talents and showcase them” said Head Mistress Ms. Namita Parathasarty. 

The activities done by the campers during the summer camp were put for display and sale, the proceeds of the same were donated to,”Navjeevan Society for Research and Rehabilitation of the Mentally Retarded”.

Debate Competition using Video Conferencing

With growing technology, the world no doubt has become a small place, where distances are no bar and knowledge has no limit. This is what Indus World School also believes and is preparing its students for the same. Generally Video conferencing is used by corporate or companies, but in today’s tech world, Indus World School has given exposure to the students to showcase their talent with the help of video conferencing. Debate competition on “Children should be a part of social networking sites or not” was recently organized by Indus World School in which students of Aurangabad, Indore and Raipur participated with the help of video conferencing. Topic was given them two days before and students of grade 5, 6 and 7 prepared by referring different books and websites. Students were divided into 2 groups and asked to debate on the topic. Students were guided by the mentors on how to counter at talk and answer.  

Technology is the future, so what better way to amalgamate technology to their learning. We are preparing children for their future and for sure technology cannot be left behind. IWS leaves no stone unturned to make sure that technology becomes a part of school learning. For this it will have robotics classes from coming session, it has visual programming from class three and above and planning for tablets in higher classes any much more to make technology one of the friends of children.

IWS introduces 'Robotics' as subject-Aurangabad

With a view to keeping children abreast, with the latest technology, Indus World School has decided to introduce a subject on 'Robotics'in its primary section from its next academic year. It may be noted that Indus World School, at its 25 centers has already included the subject in the syllabus implemented in association with IIT's Mumbai Strategic Business Think Labs. A seminar was organised at IWS Aurangabad to apprise student and their parents of its plan to introduce the subject. 

SBTL manager Mr. Vinay Sharma gave a demonstration on  'Roboics' and presented video films highlighting the importance of  the subject. Children accompanied by their parents attended the seminar in large numbers. They also enthusiastically participated in the discussion which followed the seminar.

Annual Day at IWS Aurangabad

Indus World School celebrated its 2^nd Annual Day “Indutsav- Parivartan” on 25^th February 2012 at CIDCO Auditorium. The Event commenced with the lighting of ceremonial lamp followed by the welcome speech by student.

The program started with sharing the Annual Report with the parents and felicitation ceremony. Students who had excelled in various curricular activities were awarded for their outstanding performances.

The cultural program started with meticulous performances of “Bharatnatyam” followed by thrilling and power packed performance of Tiny- Toddlers of Pre-primary and budding artists of primary section.

The audience was spell bound while looking at various aspects of relations in life and understanding their importance at various stages. It was displayed through various historical character like- Shivaji, Mahatma Gandhi etc. it was a magnanimous effort of students to reveal their sentiments in two and a half hours.

In the end, Head Mistress Ms. Namita Parthasarthy encouraged the students with her words of wisdom and blessings and thanked everyone for making the day memorable.

Workshop on Bapu's Charkha gets good response at IWS Aurangabad

A workshop on learning to run Bapu's Charkha was organised at IWS Aurangabad at its campus. Not only the school students and their parents but also people fom across the city benefitted with the workshop which was organised in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. The workshop was addressed by Mr. Mukesh Kulkarni, a Khadi expert, who briefed the audience on Bapu's symbol of non violence, independence and economic progress. Kulkarni also explained the types of charkhas that have evolved since last five decades. Speaking on the occassion Director IWS Prof. Aaditya Lohana said "Learning this skill will help them imbibe the characteristics of patience and then understand that one has to pass through several processes before reaching the end result.

Target IIT seminar evokes good response at Aurangabad

"Getting admission into IIT is no longer a difficult task due to increase in the number of IITs and seats", said Mr. R. Shiva Kuma Chairman Indus World School.

Mr. R. Shiva Kumar himself is an aluminus of IIT, Chennai. Addressing parents at Aurangabad on 4th February 2012, he said that IIT has become a bench mark and their graduates are in great demand in US.Both students and their parents are however  vexed about admission into IITs and have several queries. They are always confused about the objective of opting IIT, procedure of selection, exam syllabus, age when te student should start preperation and so on and so forth.

The government is planning to conduct a common enterance test for admission into engineering, merging IIT-JEE and AIEEE which will become more difficult and students will have to work harder to get through. The picture about the enterance exam structure will be clear in few days added Shiva Kumar.

Prof. Aaditya Lohana Director Indus World School, said that engineering stream was not focused upon in the state as many people are not aware of the opportunities in this field. Parents, teachers and students were present in large numbers for the seminar.

MOCK FIRE DRILL AT INDUS WORLD SCHOOL-Aurangabad

                                               

No task is as important as creating safe learning environment for our nation’s children. Being prepared will improve the ability to respond to disaster. School plays a very important role in dissemination of information among the masses.

‘You can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg’.

The intervening period between a building catching fire and the arrival of the fire brigade is very crucial and following the fire safety measures can control lasting damage. To spread this message and prove  that, ‘You can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg’ and ‘Action speaks louder than words, a full scale offsite planned mock fire drill was conducted at Indus World School. The exercise meant to tell all concerned to remain vigilant at all times. The purpose was to make sure that students are well prepared in case of an emergency.

Managing a large group of students during a fire is a challenge that was addressed in advance through preparation and planning. Students were educated on measures to be taken in case of fire or when rooms are filled with smoke. A map and exit routes for each classroom and non-instructional areas like office, staffroom, kitchen was created.

As the whistle blew, all the mentors lined up their students in a single line and lead them out to the ground through the exit points already assigned to them. The students were instructed to remain calm and not touch anything while going out of the building. They were asked to crawl or crouch down in single file to avoid confusion. The purpose was to make sure that students are well prepared in case of an emergency such as an evacuation, positioning at a safe place.

The sports mentor told the students about the measures to be taken in case of fire. He illustrated the precautions to be taken in case of fire in the building. He gave a demonstration on how to rescue the fire victims from a spot of fire by giving a mock demo and how to take an injured or unconscious person out of the building. The students were also given a display of how to enter a room in which all the approaches are closed and there is a dense smoke. The fireman gave a demonstration of the fire equipment present for fire fighting.

Vedic Maths workshop evokes good response at IWS Aurangabad

The Workshop on Vedic Maths organized by Indus World School, Aurangabad on 23rd December 2011.Workshop received a good response from children and their parents.

Expert Rajeshwari Sharma gave a practical demonstration on how to solve the hardest sums through Vedic Maths system as school children and their parents watched with rapt attention. Earlier, Indus World School director Prof.Aditya Lohana, Headmistress Namita Parthasarthy and Rajeshwari Sharma lighted the traditional lamp to inaugurate the workshop.Lokmat Media Ltd welcomed the guests.

In his introductory speech, Prof. Aditya Lohana briefed the audience on the Vedic Maths.He said Rajeshwari Sharma learnt this system through self-study and has a unique way of explaining it. She has dedicated her entire life to propagate this system, Prof. Lohana added.

Rajeshwari Sharma explained the audience how to solve difficult sums by dividing the numbers. She also answered various queries of parents and students during a question answer session.
