Inauguration of Centre of Agriculture by C.B.S.E. Chairman at Indus World School

CBSE Chairman Mr. Vineet Joshi inaugurated the "Centre for agriculture” at both the campuses of Indus world School on Monday.'Center for Agriculture' is an effort of Indus World School to reconnect children to their mother earth. Children from classes 3 to 7 will get to learn a lot of things through 'Centre for Agriculture'. Not only will they learn about Agriculture but a lot other things which are connected to it.

Mr. Joshi along with school children sowed different type of seeds. Praising Indus World School Mr. Joshi said that "Indus World school emphasizes on learning by doing. It was a good learning experience to visit IWS". Appreciating the efforts of IWS, Mr. Joshi wished that IWS will continue doing the good work.

Chairman Mr. R. Shiva kumar, Director Mr. Aaditya Lohana and Principal Mrs. Smita Rathore were also present on the occassion.

Indus World School Students donate their first earnings to NGO

Students of IWS Indore participated in a Republic Day Carnival, oranised by ‘We For You’ (V4u) an NGO which works on RTI, Advocacy & other social Issues. They exhibited their talent of art and craft by doing on the spot painting. The purpose was to emphasize on the importance of art.

 Some of IWS students who are inclined toward art and are quite proficient in doing good painting very quickly, participated in the event. Four paintings were made then and there in front of the audience.

These paintings were then auctioned. These paintings were fetched them an amount of Rs. 9,600/-. The amount was donated by the children to the same NGO for noble cause.

Indotsav 2012 Annual Day IWs Raipur

  

Indus World School, Raipur celebrated its Annual day on 21^st JAN 2012  with ‘Environment’ as its central theme. Like every year the stage was set up according to the theme with traditional work using environment friendly material. The whole set up was given an appearance of beautiful country side surroundings with lots of trees. Children had put up beautiful stalls showcasing their art, craft & pottery work, which were on sale. Collection of which will be going towards a social cause.

After traditional welcome of the Chief guest Dr. A.K Sharma, Dean, PT. J.N.M Medical College, & Guest of honor Prof .B.K Sharma from the Math Dept. PT. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, function started with lighting of lamp by the guests followed by a ‘Welcome Dance’ performed by kids.

Founder Director Indus World School Mr. R. Shivkumar (IIT & IIM KOLKATA) was also present to grace the occasion. 

 Principal Mr. G. Rajkumar made a beginning by a warm & heartfelt welcome speech. 

He presented the schools achievements & reports tracing the progress made in the last

one year & said that during the school has taken long strides & has made commendable

 progress both in the academic & MACD(Music, Art, Craft, Dance).

The tiny tots of the school presented their fountain of talents by dancing to the tunes of Classical music prepared by the kids themselves. The senior children held the audience engrossed with their colorful attire & heart throbbing performances, as they presented ‘Environment’ theme dance. 

The prizes & certificates for all round proficiency were given by the Chief Guest. At the end of the cultural show, a wonderful fusion of cultural vocal and instruments was presented by our Music Mentor Mr. Shukla & kids.

The programme concluded with thanks giving speech by school’s Principal Mr. G. Rajkumar.

MY MOTHER

Oh my mother!

You are different from others,

You cook tasty food for us,

And help us to catch our bus.

You help us in our study,

And you are my best buddy.

You always take care

And teach us to share.

                                   You tell us to be nice,

                                    And try to make us wise.

                                   You are very cute,

                                   And you are my root.

                                    Because of you we have birthdays

                                               And we feel special everyday.

Chota Bheem at IWS Indore

This weekend Indus Word School gave a gift to all the children of the city. You must be thinking how that was done. Actually IWS had invited the most popular cartoon character Chota Bheem and its team to school. Indus World School has a Pan-India tie up with Green Gold Animation to go to our various schools across the country and give a lifetime experience to the children.

Chota Bheem came to the Chhawani campus on 21^st at 12:00 pm. The scene was of Chota Bheem’s village ‘Dholakpur’.  There was an enthusiasm all around in the air. Every child wanted to meet Chota Bheem, shake hands with him and get a photograph clicked with him.

There were lots of games both for children and for their parents. Even the parents seem to be enjoying as much as children. Chota bheem gave key rings, chains, face masks and many other things as take a ways to the children.

Both the days were full of fun for children, parents as well as mentors. Presence of Chota Bheem made everyone kids once again.

MOCK FIRE DRILL AT INDUS WORLD SCHOOL-Aurangabad

                                               

No task is as important as creating safe learning environment for our nation’s children. Being prepared will improve the ability to respond to disaster. School plays a very important role in dissemination of information among the masses.

‘You can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg’.

The intervening period between a building catching fire and the arrival of the fire brigade is very crucial and following the fire safety measures can control lasting damage. To spread this message and prove  that, ‘You can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg’ and ‘Action speaks louder than words, a full scale offsite planned mock fire drill was conducted at Indus World School. The exercise meant to tell all concerned to remain vigilant at all times. The purpose was to make sure that students are well prepared in case of an emergency.

Managing a large group of students during a fire is a challenge that was addressed in advance through preparation and planning. Students were educated on measures to be taken in case of fire or when rooms are filled with smoke. A map and exit routes for each classroom and non-instructional areas like office, staffroom, kitchen was created.

As the whistle blew, all the mentors lined up their students in a single line and lead them out to the ground through the exit points already assigned to them. The students were instructed to remain calm and not touch anything while going out of the building. They were asked to crawl or crouch down in single file to avoid confusion. The purpose was to make sure that students are well prepared in case of an emergency such as an evacuation, positioning at a safe place.

The sports mentor told the students about the measures to be taken in case of fire. He illustrated the precautions to be taken in case of fire in the building. He gave a demonstration on how to rescue the fire victims from a spot of fire by giving a mock demo and how to take an injured or unconscious person out of the building. The students were also given a display of how to enter a room in which all the approaches are closed and there is a dense smoke. The fireman gave a demonstration of the fire equipment present for fire fighting.

PENCIL PALS

It is rather exciting when a class becomes the fountainhead of new ideas. Especially when children come up with them and seek to help each other out in executing them!

I never thought that a grammar exercise on rhyming words in English would ignite these young minds into something as creative as what I am about to mention!

The excitement to create rhyming word strings was palpable as every child was busy thinking of lines ending in rhyming words and subsequently a simple four line poem.

I could see children in the class who could make poems at the drop of a hat! The scene was quite astonishing! Having read their poems at length, I felt that these children had immense potential and they needed an honest appraisal of their work which would steer them towards deep rooted interest in poetry!

I suggested that they wrote a four liner daily and compile them which could become a useful resource for their juniors! I could see the sense of achievement and pride they carried that day! But what came as a delight were their mutual offers to draw illustrations for these poems! Trust me! I had no clue as to what these kids were up to! They put their heads together and conceived this idea of creating a booklet with small pictures. Some of them offered to give tunes to these poems and turn them into songs!

I discovered that at the tender age of seven, if children can ideate in this manner, our roles as mentors grew manifold as nurturing this raw talent and transforming it into something constructive is a humongous responsibility! I take pride in the bonding between the children and their enthusiasm for collaborative learning! I felt that it is moments like these when the classroom becomes the metaphorical temple of knowledge and ideas take birth!

I cannot name the feeling that I experience when I see them retiring to a corner after their class work is done, to create what they call their booklet for juniors! I wish more ideas could come up in this form and each child gets his due which he rightly deserves! Every single day has been a learning experience; these children have taught us so much! To make! To believe!  To be one!

I hope and wish I could compile the poems and give them a surprise in the way they wanted..!
