Valentine..? No, it’s Grandparents’ Day !!!!! at Jalgaon

We as a people look to be at cultural crossroads and rarely confident of what is right and what is wrong when it comes to 14th Feb. Somehow, a majority of 35+ population, feels it is irrelevant to us to celebrate Valentine Day as it is against the very Indian flavor. However, the young generation seldom finds  time to understand all the contours of it and just loves to immerse into the red , pink and yellow of it ! But give an alternatives with convincing logic and just see the same young generation making a rainbow of it ! With this at the back of our mind, we decided to celebrate every 14th  February as Grandparents’ Day.. with an eye on the future; even if we reduce a few would-be inmates of Oldage Homes, we think we would have achieved something hugely satisfying and tangible.

On 14th Feb 2012, we had all the grandparents of our students....it just turned the day into a festive  extravaganza.  They played, they ran, they sang, they laughed, they shared, they had emotional tears…. they simply wanted not to be reminded of their age. Just silently – and simultaneously screamingly, they shouted they needed it much more than the young ones …..it, what ? Love and nothing more!!!!

(The function was inaugurated at the hands of the eldest; many a game like lemon-&-spoon, Musical chair, antakshari; quiz contest based on Indian festivals, etc were held and the winner rewarded and at the end they opened their hearts. For Ujjwal Education Trust, this was ninth year in row. The result is that some of our ex-students have been celebrating the day as Grandparents’ Day wherever they are studying or staying.)
